Nikenbah Markets

Hervey Bay hotels

Nikenbah Markets are held at the Hervey Bay Animal Refuge on the corner of the Nikenbah/Dundowran and Maryborough/Hervey Bay Roads at Nikenbah, just a short drive out from Hervey Bay township. The markets are a great source of much needed funding to care for the animals at the refuge. They are a hugely popular variety market and have loads of really wonderful items for including a wide range of locally produced arts and crafts, fresh produce, trash and treasure, cakes and jams and much more.

Opening at 6.00am it’s always best to get in early to find a bargain or two. Locals and tourists alike can browse through the stalls which offer a wide range of gift opportunities for family and friends back at home.

Be entertained by the free local musical talent while you’re wandering through the markets, or sit down in the shade and just soak in the atmosphere while having a bite to eat or a cool drink from the great selection.

Being so close to the animals, there is the opportunity for viewing some of the residents of the refuge, and guides to take you and your family to say hello.

As the sun starts to set over the bay, the best way to take in the golden and fuchsia rays of sundown is with a champagne cruise out on the waters. Unwind with a glass or two of chilled champagne or the finest Aussie beers as you soak up the atmosphere, enjoy the gentle breezes and spot a turtle or two. After a busy day out in the Queensland sunshine, you are sure to have worked up an appetite and there are plenty of sumptuous choices to be had in the area. There are a range of seafood restaurants nestled around the Marina and for a casual dining experience and excellent coffee and desserts head to The Esplanade. Both locations offer sensational views as you tuck into your freshly prepared meal.
